This section includes recent projects developed through MFA work at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Remembering and Forgetting (video installation). Six 20 x 20 inch fabric panels (mixed fibres and linen, including fragments of the artist’s clothing) dipped in liquified candle wax (digitized 16mm footage and digital video).
Shelter within a shelter (artists’ book prototype). This book explores ideas about refuge by referencing, among other things, Poetics of Space by Gaston Bachelard.
Me gustaría saber que hay en el otro lado (artists’ book prototype). This book is based on a maternal family story that is situated in the Bay of Cádiz.
I am never really lost (graphite rendered on multiple 17 x 14 inch mixed media panels). This is an evolving project that expands over time with the addition of new panels. The work has become a reflection on travel, borders and limits. The edges of each panel embody an encounter with limits, which are subsequently extended when adjacent panels are completed.
Deconstructed (two sets of folded illustration board). Deconstructed is a malleable object intended for hands-on, participatory engagement. Referencing the participatory work of Brazilian artist, Lygia Clark, this project also draws from theoretical sources that offer insight relevant to current technological and social issues (including the writings of Vilém Flusser).
Untitled (machined steel and dirt).
